*** 2008 ***

  • 11 June 2008: AGN summer meeting at 5:30 p.m. in SS622 (LN2 ice cream!).
  • During this meeting we discussed our plans for summer activities and started thinking about what we would like to do in the fall. We shared a Big Bangers sign-up sheet (contact person: Phil Muirhead). Update on Science Cafe: possible location found in Dryden, Ryan A. working on a funding proposal for NOVA Science Now. In the summer/fall we hope to produce the Curious Monologues (contact person: Shoshe and Ann). We also discussed the possibility of organizing a committee to put together a Grad Student Life Survey.

    Summer Dinner with a Professor: possibly the week of July 20th.
    Other summer excursion ideas: Gore Mountain/Herkimer geology excursion (Shoshe), State Fair (August 21 - Sept. 1), berry picking.
    Events for fall: Outreach intro, grad student truth session, fellowship info session, "How to Get Out of Academia and Still Get A Job" (aka non-academic careers panel).

    *** 2007 ***

  • 15 October 2007: AGN Fall meeting at 4pm in SS 622 (free donuts!).
  • The purpose of this meeting is to elect new officers, discuss upcoming events and recent statistics on jobs in Astronomy, and meet with Jim Bell to discuss the yearly reports and the leadership fellowhip.

  • 25 September 2007: Fellowship information session for undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs affiliated with the department of Astronomy at 4:15pm in SS 105. Pizza and beverages will be provided.
  • A forum/Q&A session led by Associate Dean Sarah Hale from the Graduate School, astronomy professors, and fellowship applicants/winners.

  • 12 May 2007: AGN Year End BBQ at 5pm at Briony and Mel's Lakehouse.
  • 3 May 2007: Dinner with Joe Burns. Meet in the Space Sciences lobby at 6pm.
  • 5 April 2007: Dinner with Jim Bell at the Lost Dog on the Commons - meet in the Space Sciences lobby at 6pm.
  • 28 February 2007: Dinner with Martha Haynes - meet in the Space Sciences lobby at 6pm.
  • 27 February 2007: Members Meeting - We'll have this semesters members meeting from 11:30 to 12:30 in 622 Space Sciences.

    *** 2006 ***

  • 15 November 2006: Dinner with David Chernoff at Taste of Thai - meet in the Space Sciences lobby at 6pm to carpool to the Commons.
  • This is the first monthly dinner with a faculty member that AGN has organized. Please RSVP to Ryan Yamada if you plan to attend.

  • 24 October 2006: Fellowship Application Information Session at 5pm in SS 105 with FREE PIZZA
  • Astronomy professors Jim Bell, Martha Haynes, Jamie Lloyd, and Ira Wasserman, Sarah Hale from the graduate school, and successful applicants discuss the application process. We also have information on graduate fellowships for both US citizens and non-citizens in all stages of their graduate career, and FREE PIZZA. The discussion focuses on astronomy graduate fellowships, but should also be helpful for undergrads and postdocs.
